Includes a discussion of beneficiary designations, probate administration and trust administration. Also includes a brief discussion of when charities may wish to disclaim a gift.

Stephanie M. Smith, Stephanie M. Smith, Chartered
Stephanie M. Smith practices primarily in the area of estate planning law including wills, trusts and probate. She received a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Services from Georgetown University in 1977 and a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 1980. She is licensed to practice in both Kansas and Missouri. Ms. Smith is a member of Kansas Bar Association, the Johnson County Bar Association, The Kansas Women’s Attorney Association, the Kansas City Estate Planning Society. Ms. Smith is a past board member of the Mid-American Planned Giving Council.
Ms. Smith was born in Manhattan, Kansas, and grew up in Mission and Overland Park, Kansas area. After practicing law in Nevada and Colorado for 17 years, she returned to Kansas in 1997 and opened the firm of Stephanie M. Smith, Chartered, in Prairie Village.

Jim is a CPA and attorney who practices in Kansas City, Missouri with Hart Law Company, P.C. Prior to entering the practice of law, Jim was an agent for the Internal Revenue Service and his work experience includes working in the tax department of a “Big 6” accounting firm. Jim is a licensed attorney in both Missouri and Kansas and focuses primarily on estate planning and probate, tax issues, corporate and entity formation and general corporate law. He and his wife have six children and live in Kansas City, Missouri.
