Presenters – Marguerite Armitage, CFP, Senior Wealth Advisor, Mariner Wealth Advisors
Marguerite Armitage works with clients to provide personalized wealth management solutions to help them reach their goals. She assists clients with financial planning, tax preparation, investing, reporting and a variety of other needs.
Prior to joining Mariner Wealth Advisors in 2016, Marguerite was the director of client experience at Legacy Financial Strategies, LLC. Her past experience also includes serving as a commercial banking portfolio manager at Iberiabank Corporation in New Orleans. Marguerite has bachelor’s degrees in English and French Literature from the University of Virginia.
Marguerite has been a member of the Junior League of Kansas City since 2015 and is involved with Seeds of Hope Brazil, Inc., a charitable organization serving disadvantaged youth in Sao Paolo, Brazil. She enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, traveling, and reading, and is an active supporter of the Mariner Foundation.
Presenter – Krista Hurd, Director of Development, Community LINC
Krista Hurd currently serves as the Director of Development at Community LINC. Before her tenure at Community LINC, Krista embarked on her fundraising journey a decade ago at Children’s Mercy Hospital where she began her career in Gift Planning.
Krista played a pivotal role in revitalizing and launching an extensive gift planning program, as well as establishing the inaugural gift planning stewardship initiative. Additionally, she served as a major gift officer, specializing in blended gifts and integrating gift planning into regular conversations with supporters.
In 2021, Krista assumed the position of Director of Donor Development followed by Director of Leadership Gifts at the PKD Foundation. During her tenure, she focused on fortifying and expanding their initiatives in mid-level giving, major gifts and gift planning.
In her new role at Community LINC, Krista is responsible for the development and growth of robust and sustainable development programs. Concurrently, she maintains her engagement with major and gift planning donors and looks forward to sharing the important mission of the organization, ending homelessness in Kansas City from this generation to the next.
Scott McGehee, CFP, Senior Wealth Advisor, Mariner Wealth Advisors
Scott McGehee a Certified Financial PlannerTM professional working with clients to develop personalized wealth management solutions. As an associate wealth advisor, Scott helps individuals, families and business owners identify and achieve their financial goals.
Scott previously served as a summer intern with Mariner Wealth Advisors. Prior to that, he was an intern at The Trust Company. Before that, Scott interned at Reed Financial Services. Scott has a bachelor’s degree in personal financial planning from Kansas State University where he graduated summa cum laude. He also obtained certificates in integrated investment management and professional strategic selling.
In his free time, Scott enjoys anything and everything Kansas State sports related. On Sundays, you can find him cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Scott also enjoys golfing, playing softball and basketball, spending time with his wife Hannah and playing with their dog Harvey. Scott is a proud member of the Financial Planning Association of Greater Kansas City and a member of the Leawood Chamber of Commerce.
Presenter – Andy Morrison, JD, Vice President for Gift Planning, The Kansas University Endowment Association
Andy Morrison is Vice President for Gift Planning at the Kansas University Endowment Association where he has been employed since 2012. Prior to his role at KU Endowment, he was the Gift Planning Director for Saint Luke’s Hospital Foundation in Kansas City, Missouri for 15 years, where he also served as President of Saint Luke’s Foundation’s real estate subsidiary. Andy served as a Personal Trust Officer for Mercantile Bank, now US Bank, for 6 years prior to joining Saint Luke’s Foundation. He holds bachelor degrees in English Literature and Education from the University of Kansas and a JD from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
Andy has served on numerous organization’s boards and planned giving committees, and has served as President of MAPGC, the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation, The Mercury Club of Kansas City, The Shawnee Mission East Fund, and the House Corporation of the Pi Deuteron Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity at the University of Kansas.
Presenter: Brandon M. Oldham, JD, Kirkland Woods and Martinsen, LLP
Brandon Oldham is an estate planning attorney with Kirkland Woods and Martinsen in their Liberty, MO office, specializing in estate planning for high-net-worth families, trust and probate administration, business succession planning, charitable giving, and tax strategy. Prior to joining Kirkland Woods and Martinsen, Brandon practiced law with another firm in Kansas City and a firm in San Francisco, California. Brandon received his Juris Doctor degree, as well as an LL.M. in Taxation, from the University of San Francisco. While there, Brandon interned for two international law firms, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and Reed Smith, in their overseas offices in Beijing, China.
Brandon was recently recognized in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America 2024 in the field of Trusts and Estates.
Before beginning his legal career, Brandon served six years in the United States Army, with one tour in Iraq and one tour in Afghanistan. During that time, he worked as an intelligence advisor for National Security Agency receiving an award in July of 2010 for being recognized as the top intelligence advisor in Iraq.
Presenter: Philip A. Watson, Gift Planning Coaching & Consulting, LLC
Phil Watson is the former Managing Director of Philanthropic Gift Planning at Children’s Mercy in Kansas City. He retired in April 2021 after a 40-year career most recently with the hospital, UMKC and Avila University. His breadth of experience includes charitable gift planning, major gifts, financial and estate planning, trust and investment management, advancement and alumni engagement, and endowment administration. In May 2023, Phil established Gift Planning Coaching & Consulting, LLC to share his expertise with small and mid-sized non-profits in our community who are motivated to build and enhance Gift Planning opportunities for their donors to help the people they serve.
Phil is a former President of Mid-America Charitable Gift Planners and has held numerous professional and community leadership positions and has been a featured speaker at numerous local and regional professional organizations, including the National Conference of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners. Phil enjoys the role of “teacher” in encouraging and inspiring development professionals who want to build their knowledge, expertise, experience, and enthusiasm for what Gift Planning can do for their donors and organizations.

Shelly Doucet, JD, MSW, CFRE, Assistant Vice President, UMKC Foundation
Shelly Doucet serves the University of Missouri-Kansas City Foundation as Assistant Vice President where she manages a team of development directors while handling planned and principal gifts.
Though she began her career as mediator and litigation attorney, Shelly transitioned to the nonprofit world when she obtained her Master of Social Work Administration degree from the University of Kansas. She has been working as a fundraising professional for 20 years. Shelly holds her undergraduate and law degree from Louisiana State University.
Shelly is a member of the Kansas City Women’s Chorus and has served her community as a volunteer for various groups, including AFPKC, Show Me KC Schools, CASA, Académie Lafayette, and Mid-America Charitable Gift Planners.

Tim Andrews, MPA, CAP, Executive Director of Gift Planning, Benedictine College
Tim Andrews has been Executive Director of Gift Planning at Benedictine College since 2008. In addition, he held concurrent roles as Executive Director of Alumni & Donor Relations and Executive Director of Alumni Relations & Career Services. Prior to returning to his alma mater, he spent 11 years as the Director of Development at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park. Tim has 30 years of fundraising experience.
Lauren Mattleman Hoopes, Executive Vice President, Kinetic Fundraising
Lauren Mattleman Hoopes has worked for over 30 years in the non-profit sector and currently serves as Executive Vice President for Kinetic Fundraising. She joined Kinetic Fundraising after serving for 20 years as the Chief Executive Officer of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Kansas City. Under Lauren’s leadership, the Jewish Community Foundation received the 2019 Nonprofit Connect Excellence in Impact Award.
Prior to joining the Jewish Community Foundation, Lauren worked for over a decade at the Kansas University Endowment Association. Earlier in her career, she was in the private practice of trust and estate planning and real estate law in Boston and Kansas City.
Lauren holds both a BA with Honors in Religious Studies from Yale College, and a Juris Doctor degree from New York University Law School.
Liz Wolfe, Manager of Philanthropy Annual Giving Audiences, Children’s Mercy Kansas City
Liz Wolfe has been part of the stewardship and annual giving team at Children’s Mercy Kansas City for over four years. Her current primary areas of focus are donor communications, events, and stewardship of donor groups. Liz also leads philanthropic employee engagement and donor societies at Children’s Mercy, including Children’s Circle of Care and Legacy of Care.
Liz has held a variety of nonprofit roles, at various organizations, including volunteer engagement and corporate giving. In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching Law & Order SVU, and spending time with her husband and two dogs.
